Langos or Fried Potatoe Bread
This might be my new favourite bread. Soft and chewy, reminds me of Naan bread, but made with mashed potatoes! Lagos is Hungarian fry bread. Sometimes this bread is fried and then sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar or nuts. In this case it is used as a savoury bread with butter and garlic salt added at the end. Goes great with stew, chicken dishes or even as a snack!
Main Ingredients
2 - 3 medium sized potatoes
2 tsp instant yeast
1 tbsp sugar
1 3/4 cup flour
3 tbsp vegetable oil
1/2 cup milk
garlic salt
butter
Preparation
Step 1: Peel and chop potato. Place in boiling, salted water and cook until soft. Drain and mash potatoes and set aside.
Step 2: Add flour to a bowl and then add yeast and sugar. Stir together.
Step 3: Add warm mashed potatoes, oil, salt and milk. Mix on medium with dough hook.
Step 4: Knead well, transfer to a greased bowl and let rise 1 hour, or until double in size.
Step 5: Divide dough into 8-10 small portions. Roll into ball shape and place 2 inches apart on a cookie sheet.
Step 6: Allow to rise 15-20 minutes.
Step 7: Heat skillet and place a small amount of oil in the bottom. Taking one dough ball at a time, roll out very thin and slap it down on the frying pan. Flip over when it is golden brown- about 1 -2 minutes. To keep your bread from bubbling, cut a small slit in it right before putting it in the pan.
Step 8: Remove bread from pan and brush with butter and sprinkle with garlic salt.
