California Rolls
Full disclosure...I do not consider myself a sushi chef by any means. We are just a family that really loves sushi ( well most of us do). I have used this very basic method for california rolls on several occasions and we love them. It's more of a method than a recipe but feel free to follow along and make your own sushi. Since today is International Sushi day what better day to start?;)
Here we go...
Main Ingredients
2 sushi rice - cups cooked
2 cans crab meat
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 cucumbers - sliced into matchsticks
seaweed sheets- this is the kind I use
toasted sesame seeds
Preparation
Step 1: Cook your rice according to package directions, allow to cool.
Step 2: Flake crab meat and mix with mayonnaise.
Step 3:Lay a sushi mat down or if you don't have one wax paper or saran wrap will do.
Step 4: Spread a layer of rice down on the mat, the same size as your sheet of seaweed.
Step 5: Place seaweed sheet over top and press down firmly.
Step 6: At the end nearest you spread a row of crab mix all along the length of the sheet.
Step 7: Place cucumber sticks next to crab.
Step 8: Begin to roll sushi by lifting the mat or saran wrap and folding the end neared you over and away from you.
Step 9: Continue to roll up until the end is reached.
Step 10: Gently roll in toasted sesame seeds.
Step 11: Place roll on a cutting board and with a very sharp knife slice into 1 inch rolls.
Step 12: Serve with soya sauce for dipping and wasabi.
Other ingredients we have added to our sushi rolls are egg, avocado, tuna and shrimp tempura.
Enjoy!
