Churros

My family and I love to celebrate any holiday as it comes along, especially if there is good food involved! In May we celebrate Cinco De Mayo with a Mexican Feast. Every year we try something different on the menu but these Churros are always a staple. The kids love them and every year I regret not making a double batch.

If you have a piping bag you can make these into nice shapes, round or with ridged edges like the ones at Disneyland! I like to do things the old fashioned way so these ones are rolled out between the palms of your hand like play dough. They are relatively quick to make and super delicious!

Main Ingredients

2 cups water
5 tbsp white sugar
1 tsp salt
4 tbs vegetable oil
2 cups all purpose flour
oil for frying
sugar for coating
cinnamon

Preparation

Step 1: In a saucepan combine water, sugar salt and oil. Stir over medium heat until just boiling.

Step 2: Remove from heat and add flour. Stir vigorously until dough forms a ball.

Step 3: Roll small pieces of dough between your hands until you have a tube about 7 inches long.

Step 4: Heat oil in heavy saucepan or deep fryer to 375 F.

Step 5: Place strips of dough into oil and fry until golden brown.

Step 6: Remove with a slotted metal spoon onto paper towel for drying.

Step 7: Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
